About Company

The enterprise has changed the ownership pattern since 2002. The company got the new name – Private Joint-Stock Company (PJSC) Golovinskiy Quarry Granite. The structure of company is:
1.    Mining Shop with 3 quarries being parts of thereof: Slipchitskiy, Golovinskiy and Vostochniy. The main task of the quarry is extraction of decorative-facing blocks. Other products are being produced from block item wastes (rubbles, crushed stones).
2.    Stone-Working Shop with polishing and milling divisions in it
3.    Stone Atomizing Division.
4.    Electromechanical Shop accommodating main step-down substation 6.3 mg / W, compressor plant, maintenance workshop.
5.    Transport Shop.
6.    Repair-Construction Center.
7.    Boiler house equipped with boilers KVT -10.
8.    Centralized water supply.
9.    Boring & shotfiring works are being carried out on the contractual basis.
10.    Road transporting is being provided by own vehicles.

Total extraction volume of three quarries in 2004 came to 35 thousand m3 of mining bulk.

Rich and wide ranged nature of the native land. So usual for us and at the same time, unique facing stone granite is considered to be the greatest abundance of Golovino land. As early as in the very childhood, having gone to swim or fish, we collected bluish stones and made a competition in order to find out whose stone was the best. Afterwards, labradorite came to be known as not simply rock formation but as mineral wealth being extracted from interior by untiring hands of our people.

Settlement Golovino appeared within the place of discovered labradorite resources. A lot of information on discovery itself and granite composition was known due to geography and history lessons. But there was a wish to know more. Having read the different literature I’ve familiarized with geological structure of the area. Exact data on the geological past, on rock formation location were presented in reports of geological expeditions. I was lucky to see some of such reports. Exact maps drawn up with rather big scales (1:50000 / 500m - in 1cm) indicate that deposit is located at the edge of Korosten pluton and labradorite resources are sufficient. Geological surveys became the basis for discovering of some more quarries except those ones I examined in details.

The deposit geological structure is represented by the upper proterozoic crystalline formations (granites, labradorites, gabbro-norites and gabbro) with quaternary sandy-clay sediments covering them. The deposit is explored by the depth of 60 m. located here labradorites have color from taupe to black, with uneven coarse-grained structure. Eyelets are presented by plagioclase crystals with good iridescence in bright blue and blue-azure tints. There are approximately 250 – 300 iridescent cells that could be found within the area of 1m2. Golovino dark labradorite deposit mining was started in about 1900, while the main quarry of this deposit was opened in 1901. Labradorites from this quarry were used for facing of series of houses in Kyiv; in particular this stone was used for construction of columns on the front of National Bank of Ukraine building, facing of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine building. Great amount of Ukrainian labradorites was exported to France, Italy and other countries where they were used as material for facing of buildings and construction of monuments. The decorative properties of Ukrainian labradorites are recognized to be much higher than labradorites from other countries.

Ukrainian labradorites and gabbro-norites were widely recognized in Poland and Germany. Some Japanese, Italian companies as well as companies from other countries declared its intention as to conclusion with Ukraine of trade agreements on labradorite and gabbro-norite blocks delivery.

Labradorit from Golovinskiy deposit is not allowed to be smoothly split but is easily sawn and polished providing high quality polish. This labradorit is suitable for manufacturing of the decorative-facing wares, while its iridescent crystals could be used for different products.

Gabbro-norites are considered to be fine-grained, homogeneous and solid formation of monochrome taupe color, free from striae. Polished formation pattern is of black color with light, more often olive-green tint. Being in monolith, gabbro-norite has monochrome taupe color without any tint. Ashlar polished pattern provides stone surface with more light color. The color of polished surface has clearly defined depth differing it widely from other black stones, such as, for example, andesite or basalt.

Gabbro-norite from Slipchitskiy deposit is known to be weather-resistant, easily split within two inter-perpendicular directions that enables to produce the slabs from thereof. It is considered to be atomized better than granite but harder than labradorite; difficult-to-daub, and provides the high quality polish. Slipchinskiy gabbro-norite, mainly, is being used as construction road stone and as material for monument construction. Mining of Slipchinskiy quarry was started as recently as in XIX century
